The North American thirst for UK crime shows has grown considerably over the past decade, largely thanks to streaming, and can seemingly never be quenched. American audiences aren’t limited to what the wonderful PBS can air once or twice a week, and now whole streaming services are devoted to UK television series. BritBox is a major one that also produces original content, and we have a behind the scenes feature for their newest series, After the Flood, a crime mystery led by Sophie Rundle of Peaky Blinders and The Diplomat. Check out the extended look into the new show above, and read on to learn more about it and watch the trailer.

After the Flood is a mystery thriller set in a Yorkshire town hit by a devastating flood,” reads the synopsis for the show. “When an unidentified man is found dead in a lift in an underground car park, police assume he became trapped as the waters rose. As the investigation unfolds, PC Joanna Marshall, played by Sophie Rundle, becomes obsessed with discovering what happened to him and why?” The synopsis continues:

“The mystery unfolds across the series while we also see the real impact of climate change on the lives of residents in this small town. The floods threaten to expose secrets, and fortunes and reputations are at stake. But how far will people go to protect themselves?”

Aside from Rundle, After the Flood also stars Nicholas Gleaves (Spider-Man: Far From Home), Lorraine Ashbourne (Bridgerton), Matt Stokoe (Bodyguard), Tripti Tripuraneni (House of the Dragon), and Philip Glenister (Kingdom of Heaven). The series is written and created by Mick Davis and premiered May 13, and two episodes will drop each Monday on BritBox until the May 27 finale.

10 Underrated British Crime Drama Series

The following British crime dramas are awesome, yet they haven’t achieved the same level of popularity as shows like Peaky Blinders and Top Boy.

After the Flood Features Mainstays of British Television

Sophie Rundle has been in some of the biggest UK TV series of the past decade or so, including Merlin, The Bletchley Circle, Happy Valley, Episodes, Call the Midwife, Dickensian, Bodyguard, Jamestown, Gentleman Jack, and Peaky Blinders. The same could be said about writer and creator Mick Ford, who is also a prominent actor; he’s starred in Silent Witness, Midsomer Murders, A Touch of Frost, and many other shows and films (including the iconic How to Get Ahead in Advertising, with Richard Grant).

Of course, Lorraine Ashbourne has been a fixture in British television since the 1980s, starring in everything from Playing the Field to Jericho, and is arguably more appreciated today than she’s ever been, thanks to wonderful performances in Bridgerton, The Crown, and Sherwood. Two new episodes of After the Fall are now on BritBox, and you can watch the series through the link below:
