AMC Greenlights Third Show in Author Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe

  • Anne Rice’s
    Immortal Universe
    expands with a third series,
    The Talamasca,
which has officially been greenlit by AMC: “The series will feature the men and women responsible for tracking and containing the witches, vampires, werewolves and other creatures scattered around the globe.”
  • Season 1 of
    The Talamasca
will consist of six episodes and will begin filming later this year in Manchester, England.
  • The Talamasca
will premiere on AMC and AMC+ in late 2025.

Author Anne Rice’sImmortal Universe just got a lot bigger on-screen. AMC has officially greenlit The Talamasca series to join Interview with the Vampire and the Mayfair Witches in 2025. Mike Lafferty and John Lee Hancock are heading up The Talamasca, and the two showrunners will wear a number of creative hats, which include executive producers and writers of the upcoming AMC and AMC+ series. Hancock is also slated to sit in the director’s chair. The President of Entertainment and AMC Studios, Dan McDermott, said in a press release:

“This is a story we’ve been developing and wanting to tell from the earliest moments of this franchise,
focused on a fascinating and compelling
secret society that has already appeared in both of our existing Anne Rice series, The Talamasca.
As with all of these shows, we are thrilled to have such a high level of talent involved, represented here by
John Lee Hancock and Mark Lafferty,
and, of course, working closely with
producer Mark Johnson
as the creative head of our
Anne Rice Immortal Universe.”

Hancock revealed in the same statement:

“This all started for me with a call from Mark Johnson,
who asked if I’d ever heard of The Talamasca.
I was intrigued by the idea of an organization that, to me, had more than a passing resemblance to the CIA or MI6,
which are necessary but not always necessarily transparent. An organization with its own secrets.
Thankfully, Dan McDermott liked the take and so did Mark Lafferty, who is so talented and accomplished in the world of television.”

The Talamasca Will Film on Location in England

Season 2 of Interview with the Vampire’s fifth episode is followed up by news that The Talamasca will begin filming on location in Manchester, England this fall. Production on Season 2 of the Mayfair Witches is currently underway in Dublin and close to wrapping. And the third entry in the late Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe will debut sometime in late 2025. The creative producer behind the Immortal Universe, Mark Johnson, said in the same statement:

“With the second season of Interview with the Vampire currently receiving the best reviews of any show on television
and with the production of
Mayfair Witches
about to wrap in Ireland, promising an even more compelling and unnerving second season,
the question is what do we now add to the Immortal Universe of Anne Rice?

The answer is a completely different show from the first two,
but a show that nevertheless belongs under the Anne Rice umbrella.
The Talamasca marries the procedural spy thriller with the supernatural
and expands the thrills and the pleasures of our franchise’s ambitions.”

Interview with the Vampire Star Reveals How Lestat de Lioncourt Returns in Season 2: ‘He’s a Vision Only Louis Sees’

Sam Reid teases Lestat’s presence in Paris, and discloses that the future Brat Prince is currently being referred to as “Dream-stat.”

Justin Kirk portrays someone who represents himself as a member of the Talamasca in Season 2 of Interview with the Vampire, Raglan James. However, anyone familiar with Rice’s novels knows that Raglan is the titular villain in book four of The Vampire Chronicles, which is titled TheTale of the Body Thief.

In the 1992 novel, the powerful psychic was at one time a member of the Talamasca, but Raglan’s thievery led to him being excommunicated by the order. And he famously swaps bodies with Lestat, which leads to more than a few headaches for the Brat Prince and his friend, David Talbot.

The Talamasca is scheduled to drop on AMC and AMC+ in 2025. And be sure to read all about the big twist which doesn’t appear in the source material as teased by Sam Reid, who portrays Lestat de Lioncourt in Seasons 1 and 2 of Interview with the Vampire.
