Lansky is an American biographical crime drama about the famous gangster Meyer Lansky, written and directed by Eytan Rockaway. It stars Harvey Keitel, Sam Worthington, AnnaSophia Robb, Jackie Cruz, John Magaro, David Cade, David James Elliott, Alon Abutbul and Minka Kelly. When the aging Meyer Lansky is investigated one last time by the Feds who suspect he has stashed away millions of dollars over half a century, the retired gangster spins a dizzying tale, revealing the untold truth about his life as the notorious boss of Murder Inc. and the National Crime Syndicate.

Meyer Lansky is of course a real life historical figure, one of the founding fathers of the national crime syndicate. Known as the ‘mob’s accountant’ Lansky developed a gambling empire that stretched across the globe, and is thought to be one of the most wealthiest and successful American gangsters in history. Lansky was childhood friends with Bugsy Sigel, who he would form a gang with and together they would expand their influence and wealth. He was also victim of an extortion attempt as a teenager by Charlie Luciano, who would go onto create the national crime syndicate. Impressed with his defiant response, Luciano became friends with Lansky, and the two would go onto form a long lasting partnership. Lansky’s gambling operations grew in part due to his mob connections and the bribing of law enforcement, and also his genius calculations of mathematical odds of wagering games. He also married twice and fathered a son born with cerebral palsy.
