Poliziotteschi Classics

Clips from 3 classical Italian 1970’s Poliziotteschi movies. The Poliziotteschi genre developed in the 60’s and became hugely popular in the 70’s, partly because of the success of the american film “Dirty Harry” (1971), and the fading of the Spaghetti Westerns. The genre is marked by a cynical atmosphere, brutal violence and charismatic lead characters. The main character is often a cop who uses unconventional and extreme (but very effective) methods of delivering justice, but some Poliziotteschi’s are pure gangster movies (for example Lucio Fulci’s ultraviolent 1980 film “Contraband”) Notable directors are Umberto Lenzi, Enzo G. Castellari and Fernando di Leo.
