Richard Widmark & Trevor Howard Run For The Sun, 1956

United Artists distributed the 1956 American Technicolor thriller and adventure film Run for the Sun. It is the third film adaptation of Richard Connell’s classic 1924 suspense story, “The Most Dangerous Game.”. The previous adaptations were RKO’s The Most Dangerous Game (1932) and its remake, A Game of Death (1945). The cast of this rendition includes Richard Widmark, Trevor Howard, and Jane Greer, with Ray Boulting serving as the director and Boulting and Dudley Nichols as the scriptwriters. Connell received recognition for his short piece.

Run for the Sun was one of four films created for United Artists distribution by a production firm controlled by actress Jane Russell and her then-spouse, former NFL player Bob Waterfield. Russell and Robert Mitchum were first announced as the lead actors. Subsequently, Eva Marie Saint was slated to portray the female protagonist.

Robert Wilder authored the first screenplay for Run for the Sun, and Dudley Nichols was subsequently enlisted to collaborate on it.

Roy Boulting was hired as the director for Run for the Sun in August 1955. Richard Widmark and Leo Genn were initially chosen as the original stars. Subsequently, Jane Greer became a member of the cast.
