Scarlet Street (1945) by Fritz Lang High Quality Full Movie

Plot:

In 1934 New York, we meet Christopher “Chris” Cross, a mild-mannered man working as a cashier and pursuing painting as a hobby. His uneventful life takes a turn when he saves a young woman named Kitty from an attack. Drawn to her, Chris begins to believe that Kitty reciprocates his affection, especially as she mistakenly assumes he’s a wealthy artist.

As Chris becomes infatuated with Kitty, she manipulates him into financing her lifestyle by pretending to be interested in his art and romance. This deception leads Chris to steal money from his wife and employer to support Kitty and her boyfriend Johnny’s schemes. Things take a surprising turn when Johnny’s mediocre paintings, passed off as Kitty’s, gain unexpected acclaim.

The situation becomes more complex when Chris’s supposedly deceased wife’s first husband resurfaces, blackmailing him for money. Chris’s plan to expose his wife’s remarriage backfires, leaving him embroiled in deeper troubles.

When Chris discovers Kitty’s betrayal and rejection, he succumbs to rage and kills her. Although Johnny is arrested for the murder, Chris escapes punishment. However, the guilt and torment of his actions drive him to attempt suicide.

Despite avoiding legal repercussions, Chris’s life spirals downward, leaving him homeless and haunted by the memories of Kitty and Johnny. His own artistic talent goes unrecognized, as Kitty gains posthumous fame for his paintings.

The story paints a bleak picture of manipulation, betrayal, and the consequences of unchecked desire, ultimately leading to the downfall of the protagonist, Chris Cross.
