WWL Louisiana id promo montage 1981-2023

Here is an updated station id and promo montage from WWL, the CBS affiliate in New Orleans, LA. All copyrights of Loyola, Rampart Street Partners, Belo, Gannett/Tegna acknowledged. WWL signed on as the fourth TV station in New Orleans in 1957 and by the 1970s became NOLA’s leading TV station and one of the strongest CBS affiliates. Station IDs begin around 1984 with its “Best Things in Life are here on 4” era. Other slogans have included “The Spirit of Louisiana” and “Louisiana’s News Leader,” and the station has used the Eyewitness News branding continuously since 1968. Loyola sold WWL in 1989 to an employee owned consortium, who then sold the station to Belo in 1994. Gannett/Tegna picked up WWL’ and Belo’s other properties in 2013. Unfortunately, since coming under Gannett and Tegna, WWL has lost significant ground to other stations in the New Orleans area, particularly Fox affiliate WVUE and, to a lesser extent, WDSU. In November of this year, WWL also jettisoned its long standing Eyewitness News brand in use since 1968 now rebranding as WWL Louisiana, while adopting more “local” flavor cuts of the Tegna standard news theme, C Clarity.

In terms of subchannels, WWL added Justice Network/True Crime Network in 2015 after previously airing the Live Well Network from 2010-2014, and then Decades was added in 2016. In 2021, Twist, GetTV, and Local Now were added to the next three subchannels. Local Now was later removed in early 2022, leaving 4.6 blank until Dabl was added in 2023, and Decades/Catchy Comedy was removed by May 2023 (possibly during the channel’s rebrand), leaving that channel blank, but QVC 2 and ShopLC are on channels 4.7 and 4.8, respectively.
